SexologyOnline consultations

We all need support at some point in our lives.

Welcome! My name is Marie-Christine (she/her), and I am a sexologist. I support people aged 14 and older with concerns related to sexuality, relationships or emotional well-being. I offer online counselling throughout Quebec, either individually or for two people. This can include current or former partners and people in a non-monogamous relationship. I am currently accepting new clients.

What to expect

  1. Give informed consent

When you book an appointment, you receive a consent form. Please review it to decide whether the proposed terms feel right for you. If it doesn't, you may cancel your appointment free of charge with at least 48 hours’ notice.

  2. Clarify your experience and needs

Our first session gives us a chance to get to know each other, talk about your background and expectations, and clarify your goals. You’re not committing to anything beyond that first session.

  3. Move forward at your own pace

We explore your concerns in a space where you can be heard and share your thoughts freely. I adapt my approach to your needs by sharing information, resources and personalized insights. You’re free to choose how many sessions you’d like and how often we meet.

  4. Look back

The final session provides an opportunity to identify the insights, tools and resources that may continue to support you.

You have questions? That’s completely normal.

What does a sexologist do?

A sexologist provides professional support tailored to each person’s situation. Sexologists help promote, maintain or restore sexual health and support relationship well-being. In Quebec, the profession is regulated by the Quebec Order of Sexologists (OPSQ).

What is the difference between psychotherapy and supportive counselling?

Psychotherapy is a treatment for a mental disorder, a behavioural disturbance, or another problem that causes psychological suffering or distress. It aims to bring about lasting changes in emotional, cognitive, or relational functioning and must be provided by a professional licensed to practise psychotherapy. I don’t diagnose or provide psychotherapy in my practice. The type of counselling I provide focuses on current or recent concerns related to sexuality, relationships or emotional well-being. It may include active listening, reliable information, help clarifying one's needs and practical support.

How can you tell whether I’m the right sexologist for you?

It’s important that you feel comfortable and confident with your sexologist. If you’d like to get to know me or ask a few questions first, you can book a free 15-minute introductory call. The call is optional and isn’t a counselling session. During our first session, we’ll clarify what you’re looking for and see whether my approach and services are a good fit for you. My role is to support you while taking your history, circumstances, needs and resources into account. If my services or the online format aren’t a good fit for your situation, I’ll tell you and discuss other options with you.

What are online sessions like?

Sessions take place online through Jane, a platform used by health professionals. For some people, attending from a familiar setting can feel more comfortable. Online sessions can also offer greater accessibility and flexibility. For a private conversation, please find a quiet, private space where you can speak freely. I also recommend using your own device and a secure internet connection.

How is confidentiality protected?

As a sexologist, I’m bound by professional secrecy. I keep information you share confidential, except when you consent to its disclosure or when disclosure is authorized or required by law. I use Jane to store client files and take steps to protect your personal information in accordance with applicable privacy requirements and OPSQ standards.

Are consultations covered by insurance?

Coverage varies by plan. Contact your insurer to ask whether sexology services are covered and whether any limits or conditions apply. Some plans cover psychotherapy only. Sexology consultation fees may also qualify as medical expenses for tax purposes in Quebec, subject to the applicable rules and thresholds. Keep your receipts for your tax return.

How long are sessions, and what are the fees?

Sessions last 50 minutes. The fee is $120 for an individual session and $140 for a two-person session.

Are IVAC mandates accepted?

If you’re seeking support related to a crime you experienced, you can apply to IVAC to find out whether you may be eligible. IVAC makes all eligibility decisions. I’m registered as an IVAC provider and accept mandates for psychosocial rehabilitation services in sexology. Services are provided under the terms approved for your IVAC file, and authorization is required in advance. If you provide your IVAC authorization letter, I can bill IVAC for the amount it covers, up to the applicable rate of $94.50 per hour. You are responsible for paying the difference between my fee and the amount IVAC covers.
